I hope you have all been enjoying the year so far, with many runs and a bit of tinkering.

Brian, are we required to send you some money now for the deposit on the cottages for August?
I have been following your progress with the R26 in the BMW magazines and I do hope you will be ready
for the 5th of August. If not, do you fancy riding either my R25 or the R27?

Will, thanks for posting the photos of Radnor Revivals. I really look forward to our Welsh week and
being host to some of our German guests in Bath on their way home.

The R26 is getting very close and I hoping to drop the engine and gearbox in the frame this week.

Will has sorted out the deposit for the cottages so we just need to pay the remaining monies when we arrive.

I have worked out a selection of places to visit during the week so we just need to choose as a group when we are there.

PPS@all: In case you find yourself in need of some spare parts that can only (or at least only at a reasonable cost) be acquired in Germany please don't hesitate to let me know in advance...as long as we're not talking spare frames I am sure that I will find the space in my car to bring these parts to the UK, saving you the postage and the discussions with the German sellers....

I think I have all the parts now but some cosmetic things will have to wait, for example chrome plating the gear shifter.

I have just spoke to Bev from Radnor Revivals and everything is arranged; she is looking forward to seeing us. Just to clarify that Will has paid in full for bungalow No1 and because of this Bev will not require any further payment until we arrive.

Dear Welsh Explorers

Many thanks to you all for your efforts in putting this trip together and finding the deluxe accommodation Brian. I am looking forward very much to meeting up with everyone - always great to spend time in the company of like minded souls. Apologies for the lack of contact. It has been busy but I have been following the posts plus indulging in a bit of holiday daydreaming. 

I also have been making good progress with my R25/3 and except for connecting up the wiring, ignition, cabling and a couple of other minor tasks it is, hopefully, not far off being fired up. The only potential snag being, as it has yet to be registered in the UK, the length of time it may take the DVLA (driver & vehicle licensing agency) to supply an age related number plate. The documentation will be with them early next week. I will have to run in the new components, a rebored barrel with new piston but also new bearings in the gearbox and engine, which can hopefully, be done reasonably quickly, but carefully. The plan would be to transport the machine to Radnor Revivals in my wife's Citron Berlingo thereby avoiding the likelihood of being flattened by a truck on the M6.
Interestingly my insurance broker (C Nash) had no record of the R20 series BMWs at all and had to turn to Google before believing me that they ever existed - I knew they were rare in the UK!     

If plan 'A' fails plan 'B' will mean I will be on my modern machine - a 1992 R100R.

It's to good hear from you again.
I don't know what Carole Nash were doing, they've insured Lottie and the expensive horror (R27) ever since I bought both of them, typical call centre service!
Lottie is still not back together yet  as I've been too busy riding the R65LS  and getting the miles in ready for my long trip with The BMW AIrhead Fellowship to Lands End, then up to John O'Groats and back home again, starting next Saturday.

After that I have only 2 weeks to put Lottie together, put some miles on the clock and bed things down before I go on holiday until the Friday start in Radnor.

Today the good news!!!

Lottie is finally back together    and today she ran for the first time since 13/09/2014.

I had problems with a total loss of compression due to the exhaust valve sticking open. Then I had another problem with the damaged thread on the cylinder head exhaust stub. http://bmw-einzylinder.de/forum/index.php?topic=15310.0  - Now for a test run and oil change before meeting up at Radnor Revivals.

That's great news  ...Bärbel got her speedometer back (rode a while with a spare one was the original part didn't work anymore), all oil sumps have been drained and refilled again so all's set up for these two nice ladies to share another adventure together (after 2011 and 2013)

Thank you for your message.
Lottie had her first run today since September 2014. We covered 27 miles then returned to change the engine and gearbox oil. She starts easier and doesn't spit and pop like she did before.
All set now for Wales!

Just a quick update on my R26; I am optimistic about getting the bike finished in time but if it does not work out I will have to come on my R80.

The wiring is nearly done,
The head is finished but the inlet valve is an old one and has a slight bend in it so the compression is only about 60 psi

Still to do;
Reassemble the carburetor,
Assemble the seat,
Assemble the steering damper,
Do the plumbing on the petrol tank.

After getting my CNC mill repaired I have made a start on the badges, see her.

Hi All

I'm getting excited now, so here is some information for those attending Wales for our Einzylinder Welsh extravaganza. 

Unfortunately my R26 won't be ready (to many minor problems  ) so I will have attend on my 1981 R80 ( I hope you don't mind).

I have had an email from Bev at Radnor revivals and everything is ready for us in chalets 1 and 4 (at the top of the site) so when we arrive we can go straight in. She has also confirmed that the double beds have been changed to singles as promised. 

I have prepared eight rideouts for the week ranging from just over three hours to just over five hours but they are flexible and we can discuss what we want to do when we arrive.

I have booked a tour for us for the Penderyn Whisky distillery as below:

The cost of the tour will be £8.50 per person. The tour includes 2 tasters for each person.

The distillery tour is unsuitable for open toe shoes, flip flops and high heels because of stairs and flooring that we have.

The nearest petrol station to the site is at Cross Gates (Crossgates Service Station) and is about a 15 minute ride to the South on the A483.

The nearest big town is Newtown, which is North on the A483 where there are a number of shops, Supermarkets and petrol stations.

That sounds incredibly promising....your R26 may be in good company as my R25/3 currently goes for mutiny ...after having to replace the gear box on short notice the clutch has decided to no longer obey ro the lever....heaven knows what this may have as an root cause....

Fellow Welsh Explorers

Thanks again to you all for such a great holiday. Especially to Taz for the initial idea and Brian for sourcing the excellent accommodation http://www.radnorrevivals.com/. The weather, in Wales, was excellent and Brian organised some fine runs - Devil's Bridge Waterfalls http://devilsbridgefalls.co.uk/, Penderyn Distillery http://www.welsh-whisky.co.uk/ via the Brecon Beacons National Park (with sheep, horses and a cow also using the roads) including one to Church Stretton Motorcycles to solve a charging problem on one of the machines. We had much fun trying to identify the problem before the professional at the shop, Ian, sorted it out.

A genuine pleasure to meet up with fellow einzlinder enthusiasts with much fun
and, of course, exchange of information relating to the machines.

The through soaking I got on the last part of my journey home in no way detracted from a brilliant few days which could only have been improved had the holiday been longer.

Hi everyone!
I had a tiring journey back home due to a tremendous amount of traffic with many hold-ups and finally arrived around 4.00 pm.
Thanks for an enjoyable week and the assistance on a couple of occasions with the clutch adjustment and starting.
As the week went on Lottie performed better and better and I think surprised us all. Those of you who read my early posts on this forum will recall that Lottie was not always an easy machine to live with, however we covered 390 miles in the time I was there.
I look forward to meeting you all again at some time and I hope you all had a safe journey home with a lot of happy memories of our Cymru adventure.

Um all denjenigen, die nicht mitgefahren sind, den Mund ein wenig wässrig zu machen, hier der Reisebericht 

Nachdem ich leider vergeblich versucht hatte, Bärbel für die Tour fit zu bekommen, haben wir am Donnerstag morgen dann eben meine Liberta sowie die Bikes von Marie und Lothar auf dem Anhänger gestrapst und sind dann nach Hoek van Holland zur Fähre gefahren...ebenso notwendige wie uninteressante Kilometerfresserei eben.

Am nächsten Morgen dann in Harwich von der Fähre runter und auf nach Westen...in England selbst noch überwiegend Autobahn oder mehrspurige Landstrassen, in Wales selbst aber feine, kurvenreiche Landstrassen, die reines Motorradvergnügen versprachen.

Radnor Revivals entpuppte sich als Traumunterkunft par excellence, außerhalb des kleinen Ortes Llanbister an einer Nebenstrasse gelegen mit fünf erstklassig ausgestatteten Ferienhäusern, die neben je zwei Schlafzimmern, Bad und Waschküche auch ein großes Wohnzimmer mit kompletter Küchenzeile, Essgarnitur und Sofagruppe boten...seeeehr zu empfehlen.

Brian war schon da und im weiteren Lauf des Nachmittags kamen dann Tien und Norrie hinzu...nach dem Abladen aller Motorräder und einem ersten "Beschnuppern" haben wir den Abend dann im Ort bei einem ausgezeichneten Abendessen im Hotel Lion begonnen und später im Wohnzimmer von Brians, Lothars, Tiens und Norries Häuschen ausklingen lassen.

Am Samstag ging´s dann mit den Bikes zur "Devils Bridge", wo neben einer sehr ungewöhnlichen Brückenkonstruktion auch eine Schmalspurdampflok zu bestaunen war....die Umgebung der Brücke bot einen Rundweg mit Blick auf die Wasserfälle unter der Brücke an, den Tien, Lothar, Norrie und ich angingen...schweißtreibend, aber durchaus sehenswert...während Brian die Mopeds hütete und Marie den örtlichen Schokoladenladen inspizierte. Der Rückweg ging dann durch den oberen Teil des Elan Valleys (mit einen ersten Blick auf vielen idyllisch gelegenenen Stauseen). Leider verabschiedete sich irgendwo auf der Rückreise die Lima von Brians R80, aber wir konnten bis zum Quartier weiterfahren.

Am Sonntag war dann Ausspannen angesagt...zumindest für diejenigen, die sich nicht aktiv an der Fehlersuche an Brians Lima beteiligten...am Nachmittag traf dann auch noch Bill ein, so daß die Truppe für die kommenden Tage vollständig war.
Trotz intensiver Analyse und Fehlersuche blieb die Lima ein Mysterium, so daß beim Abendessen beschlossen wurde, am kommenden Tag eine Werkstatt auf der anderen Seite der walisisch-englischen Grenze aufzusuchen...

Die Tour am Montag ging dann Stretton Church zu einer BMW-Werkstatt, wo sich der Chef höchstselbst der Sache annahm und nach zwei Stunden war Brians Maschine dann wieder ok...der Stator hatte einen Wicklungsschaden, der sich nur im eingebauten Zustand finden ließ...

Am Dienstag gings dann ohne Marie (die einen Ruhetag brauchte) zum Brecon Beacons Nationalpark, wo neben einer großertigen Natur und sehenswerten Bergen auch die einzige Whisky-Distille in Wales auf uns wartete...leckerer Whisky, endlose Kilometer kurvenreicher Landstrassen durch eine abwechslungsreiche Natur mit kleinen Dörfern und Städtchen...so muß Urlaub :-)
Abends gings dann nochmal ins Lions Hotel, um Norries Abschied gebührend zu feiern...er mußte am Mittwoch früh bereits wieder heimwärts nach Roslin.

Mittwoch morgen ließen wir es uns nicht nehmen, Norrie bis Newtown zu begleiten....er machte sich dann Richtung Schottland davon, während wir über die Berge zur Küste fuhren...oben war es etwas frisch, aber je näher wir dem Meer kamen, desto angenehmer wurde es dann wieder. In Aberystwyth gabs dann noch ein Abenteuer der besonderen Art...mitten in der Stadt gings links um die Kurve und statt einer der handelsüblichen Strassen sahen wir uns einer 20+ prozentigen Steigung gegenüber...aber auch die meisterten wir mit Bravour und zur Belohnung gabs dann an der Uferpromenade feinsten Meerblick und ein paar Schritte in das Küstenstädtchen hinein konnten wir uns mit Fish&Chips für die Heimfahrt stärken...wo wir dann erfolgreich vor dem von See hereinwehenden Regen davonfuhren.

Donnerstag, leider schon der Tag der letzten Tour und der erste mit völlig bedecktem Himmel...so entschlossen wir uns, nur eine kleinere Tour zu machen und erst in Rhayader einen Imbiß zu nehmen, um dann das Elan Valley nebst Visitor Centre zu erkunden...trotz tiefhängender Wolken und gelegentlichem Nieseln war auch das wieder eine landschaftlich höchst reizvolle Ausfahrt.

Am Freitag war dann allgemeiner Aufbruch angesagt, Brian und Bill fuhren nach Hause, Tiens Frau Noreen kam mit dem Transporter vorbei und beide machten sich dann auf den Weg ins heimatliche Bath. Lothar, Marie und ich brauchten etwas länger, um alles wieder auf dem Anhänger und im Auto zu verstauen und begaben uns dann ebenfalls auf die Strasse, um der Einladung Tiens zu folgen und bei ihm zu nächtigen. Auf dem Weg nach Bath gabs dann noch ein kleines Mißgeschick mit IRN Bru (merke: niemals versuchen, das Zeug im fahrenden Auto zu trinken, ich putze immer noch!), aber letztlich kamen wir wohlbehalten bei Tien und seiner Frau an.
Abends nahm uns Tien dann zu einer kleinen Stadtrundfahrt mit dem Auto durch Bath mit-die Stadt liegt in einem ehemaligen Vulkankrater und bietet mit einer aus der Zeit der Georges stammenden Architektur und den vielen Parks in der Innenstadt ein tolles Bild.
Beim Abendessen (superlecker, nebenbei) haben wir dann die vergangenen Tage in Llanbister Revue passieren lassen und auch die Route für den folgenden Tag besprochen...wobei Noreen eine phantastische Idee hatte.

Am Samstag sind wir dann zur letzten Etappe auf britischem Boden aufgebrochen...und haben der Anregung Noreens folgend der Stadt Swindon einen Beusch abgestattet...dort befindet sich einer der wenigen "Magic Roundabouts" Großbritanniens, bei dem mehrere kleine Kreisverkehre durch einen inneren Ring miteinander verbunden sind...das ganze schaut von oben aus wie eine Blüte mit mehreren Blütenblättern und wirkt auf den ersten Blick seeeehr respekteinflößend...mit einem Auto an einem Samstag aber völlig streßfrei, mit mehreren Motorrädern zur Rushhour aber sicher ein weitaus beeindruckenderes Erlebnis....wir kommen wieder und werden berichten!
Als letzten Höhepunkt gabs dann noch einen Abstecher ins Swindoner Hinterland zum "White Horse of Uffington", eine nur von oben völlig zu sehende Pferdedarstellung, bei der einfach die dünne Grasnarbe weggeschafft wurde und so der darunterliegende Kreidefels zu sehen ist...
Dann gings ohne weitere Umwege zurück nach Harwich zur Fähre, wo wir dann die Wartezeit auf dieselbe mit unterhaltsamen Gesprächen mit den anderen Motorradtouristen verkürzten.

Der Sonntag war dann wieder der Festlandsautobahn gewidmet....700km...öde....

Abschließend ein paar Worte zur Unterkunft, dem Wetter und vor allem zur Gruppe:
Radnor Revivals ist wärmstens zu empfehlen, die Hütten liegen zentral im Osten Wales (einem Land, das wohl komplett von einem Motorradfahrer entworfen wurde...sooo viele schöne Kurven) und man kann vorn dort aus mit Tagestouren praktisch alles in Wales erreichen sowie auch Ausflüge nach England machen. Aber auch für einen "komplett mal Ausspannen" Urlaub bietet sich das Gelände an.

Obwohl Wales als die regenreichste Gegend des UK gilt, hatten wir bis auf die paar Spritzer im Elan Valley immer trockenes Wetter...und mit 16-18°C wars zum Mopedfahren ideal....muß nicht immer klappen, aber bei uns hats das!

Die Gruppe schließlich war schlicht phänomenal...die meisten kannten sich wenn überhaupt dann nur von ein oder zweimaligem Sehen oder vom Forum her, wir hatten alles von der Motorradanfängerin mit 1000km auf der Uhr bis zu hin mit allen Wassern gewaschenen Routiniers mit etichen zigtausend Kilometern Erfahrung und zwischen der jüngsten und dem ältesten lagen 65 Jahre...und es lief vom ersten Moment an wie geschmiert, alle haben Hand in Hand ihren Beitrag zum Gelingen geleistet, die Ausfahrten waren absolut streßfrei und harmonisch und auch die abendlichen Gesprächsrunden haben alle mit einbezogen...

Wie Brian es schon geschrieben hat: Genau das, was der Arzt verschrieben hatte....

PPS: kann jemand ein Tool zum editieren von AVIs empfehlen (schneiden reicht)?
