I am planning on going to the lodges next week, probably Thursday. I can see then, exactly what the layout is.

Taz, certainly a distillery and castles are on the agenda, also cockles and laver bread.

I went to Radnor Revivals yesterday and took a couple of pictures:

I was very impressed with the facilities and Bev was very friendly and helpful.

The two chalets we have booked are very similar and each have two separate bedrooms, laundry room, bathroom with shower and a large kitchen/diner and lounge room. There is also an outside patio are with barbecues available.
All bedding and towels are supplied, cooked meals are available to order at very reasonable prices but Bev will require a little bit of notice.

The beds in the bedroom will probably be different when we arrive as Bev will be changing them for ones that can be split or joined for either singles or a double.

Hello Brian.

Thanks for the effort and the pictures....that place really seems to be the perfect choice...and to be perfectly honest I would have never found it on my own.

I have two questions: when planning the lodges/rooms you do keep in m ind that I will bring a friend (note: not boy-friedn) with me who would need a place to crash as well? I will contact him and ask whether he would be good with room sharing amnd let you kneo the outcome...

The second question is of a rather dark nature...with all the refugees issues around in europe (mostly courtesy of our chancelloress) and especially the German media only rather unwilling to paint a full picture (it took them almost a week from "Cologne's Hogmanay was way fine" to "oops, more than 500 cases of sexual harassment reported and still counting") and at least Calais presumably under siege...  do you have any reliable information about the situation in Hoek van Holland/ Harwich and maybe a tip whether it might be more wise to cross the channel by car and trailer instead of insisting to leave the car on the continent and start the biking tour in the Netherlands?

I have no problem with sharing but I do snore and get up a few times during the night (prostate problems  )

With regard to the possible security at the Hoek van Holland, I don't have a first hand experience and I can only see what is the media.

The route from Harwich to Radnor Revivals is not the most biker friendly route. You are either faced with the M25 or the Bitmingham/Coventry area, so perhaps a car with the bikes on a trailer might be a more sensible option.

I think there are better routes where you can avoid these areas.

I really appreciate your input...especially the insight re. the cross-England route..so I will readjust my plans again and see whether I will be allowed to take the rental trailer across the channel as well...to the Netherlands was no issue, but I would like to be sure...

An update...following your information and recommendations I have chosen to trailer the bikes all the way to Wales...not 100% what I had wanted to do in the first place, but given the various circumstances it seems the sensible thing to do.
We will arrive in Wales in the late afternoon of the 5th and our ferry back to the continent will leave on Saturday evening at 11pm...this leaves us with some spare time for any last minute sightseeings in Wales and/or one or two nice sights on the way back to Harwich...

So the adventure ist set up, now it's plain anticipation

Hi Taz,
I think that you have made a good choice travelling with the trailer, especially as parking will not be a problem on the site.
The 60mph speed limit for trailers (motorways and major roads) will give you a more comfortable journey to our destination.
Is Lothar travelling in the car with you?

Thank you..yes, among other things I will have two rookies with me who will be riding the right side of the road for their first times...having to start that with heavily loaded bikes on a 270 miles cross-UK trip might have been a bit of a challenge.

Yes, Lothar will be riding with us...he is an acquaintance from another bikers' group here in my area who wanted to travel the UK by motorbike for years...but didn't dare on his own. when we were discussing this year's summer plans in that forum he asked whether he could join us.. .I have done a few day trips with him already and his way of riding a bike is pretty close to ours (no speed record ambitions and, luckily,  no road maggot mimicking either) so I invited him.

I think it will be the sensible approach and there will be more opportunity for enjoyable rides in Wales than you can 'shake a stick at'.

If you are looking for somewhere to visit on your journey back, you could visit the National Motorcycle Museum http://www.nationalmotorcyclemuseum.co.uk/
Only British bikes I'm afraid but still, well worth a visit.

Dein Angebot, bei Dir zu übernachten, ist wunderbar....auf der Hinfahrt werden wir direkt von der Fähre nach Wales fahren, aber auf dem Rückweg haben wir eine Übernachtung frei...Abfahrt in Wales ist am Freitag, aber unsere Fähre geht erst am Samstag Abend...wenn wir zu dritt bei Dir schlafen können, wäre das toll.

Many thanks for sharing the pictures with us...to be perfectly honest I can hardly wait until its early August and we can go for Cymru...if it weren't for the wonderful riding opportunities during late Spring and early Summer days I wouldn't mind having June and July cancelled this year
