Hello and greetings from Ireland.

I'm currently restoring a 1952 BMW R25/2 and the Drive Shaft Bell Housing is broken. Also the Bell Housing Rubber pad is missing. Is it difficult to replace the broken bell housing? And to fit the rubber pad? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Kind regards
Don

Yes, it is. The bell is available, new and even polished, but you need a hydraulic press to dismantle the flange on the gearbox side and press it on again.
If its just the rubber that has to be fixed, you can make a cut and glue it on with super glue. Quite common method.

Reason that it breaks could be clumsy handling when detaching the driveshaft from the gearbox. When you drop it, the relatively heavy driveshaft could crack the thin bell housing. Better to unscrew the housing first before you detach the driveshaft.

I had to face the same issue during my R25/2 restauration.

Even if I had the option to ask someone with a hydraulic press, I decided to weld the brocken or missing parts by myself.

I find it worked out quite nice.

Always use the correct tool for tighten or losen the bell, cause one time the holes got damaged it gets more difficult to open the bell.

Nix muss, alles kann 🛠
Geht nicht, gibt's nicht. Einfach kann ja jeder 😁.
