Titel: Grease for Rear Shocks
Beitrag von: Kurt in S.A. am 11 März 2011, 23:33:57
My owner's manual and shop manual say to use a "service proven" lubricant and that "BMW will gladly recommend a service-tested lubricant".  Lots of help that was!  Any suggestions on what to use?

Thanks...Kurt in S.A.

Nice question Kurt, and I guess it belongs to your R25/2.

same in German: what are "werkserprobte Schmierstoffe"??

As far as I understood the design of the rear shocks and the "slip sleeve", which should be greased -- use normal and the cheapest lithium base grease you can get.
Always keep in mind, that in the early 50's nobody but the military knows anything about MoS2 or TEFLON, probably something about sulphuradditives or graphite. But the motobike mechanic only knows the "white grease" on his workbench and in his grease press, given to him from the dealer with ..... :-X

Have a nice spring ahead

I have been using inexpensive name brand grease, about 4,000miles so far on my R25/3.
