Titel: Oil temperature and temperature gauge R27
Beitrag von: Jom am 18 Juli 2006, 15:07:56
Hello everyone,

For the moment we have hot weather in Belgium (+ 30°C) so I have changed the engine oil on my R27 (20W50), still one can smell the oil after a ride.
I wonder what the oil temperature is and therefore I would like to buy the dipstick with temperature gauge.

-Any idea where I can buy this temperature guage?
-Does anyone know what the "normal"  oil temperature range is for R27?

Thanks and regards,
Jom

..... or directly from the manufacturer ....

(send them an e-mail , for me they made a special price - cash in advance)

You may also get the "RR" temperature gauge here or from many other dealers:
http://www.motorradteile-stark.de/

The "RR" gauge is oil-damped, which is especially important on R27.

For R27 the correct type is RR19A.

Original equipped i had on hard rides (Autobahn):
always 130 - 140 °C !

Now, with larger oilpan, "Kühstern", copper valvecover gasket, cleaned oil channels...
Temperature gets (very) seldom higher than 115 °C.

Helgas R26 runs in a lower "Energy Efficiency Class". :box2: ;D

Hello All,

Thanks for the quick answers and the links!
@Rutz
Oil damped gauge?  Is this because the engine wobbles in the silent blocs?
I have also the larger oil pan but no copper valve cover gaskets. Where to buy and are there no oil leaks?

@Helga
" lower efficiency cl...."  don't let this fuck-up your day

I'll contact the supplier tomorrow... hope he's not in hollyday.
Thanks,
Jom

@Helga: Uuups, 'tschuldigung.

Yes, the needle will slay from zero to max even or especially at high revs.
The needle of my first non-damped gauge broke after 5.000 km.
And you can't read anything, when riding.

The copper-gasket is my own invention and selfmade ;D.
Look here:

In contrast to the original gaskets on my R27 it is really tight (dry from outside!).
It even seemed to have had a greater effect on oil temperature than the great pan, lowering it by more than 10 degrees.

Hi everyone,

I ordered the guage  RR19A as mentioned and this model seems to have a thinner stick as the non-damped ones.
Does this gives vibrations in the oil stick tube of the engine? I tought that this stick would slide in that channel
in the carter so that only the end of it " hangs" in the oilbath.

Next project is the copper valve cover gasket, I suppose one have to follow the original design?

Kind regards,
Jom

Hi Jom,

the problem is: the other "Mono-BMW"- models (R24 -26) don't have this oil stick tube at all!

The stick of the standart gauges is too thick, so that you have to remove this tube or bore it to a greater diameter.
This refers also to the gauge sold by "Ulis Motorradladen"!

ZitatI suppose one have to follow the original design?
Yes, it's no science.

Hi,
just read that Louis.de reduced the prices of their oil temperature gauges from 29.95 to 14.95 euri

Could not see if this is also valid for the gauges for our singles, but it couldn't harm to ask and  refer to their august 2006 brochure (last page) for the lower price.

Hi Ser,

the one that fits to our singles is not included! Louis doesn´t offer the gauges for our singles not from their own design and not the "RR" type.

Hi All,

I ordered the RR 19a straight from Motor Sport Ries but had to wait 2 weeks for delivery after payment.
But the good news is my engine oil temp. is 80 to 90°C at speeds 60 to 90 Kmh.

I 'M HAPPY WITH THAT

Thanks for this good tip !!!

Cheers,
Jom
