Hi
I live on the west coast of Canada and own a 1957 R26 and a 1967 R60/2. I want to change both to 12V and would like to hear from anyone who has been useing the Mz setup. I am mostly concerned about reliability.
I am also looking for a new or used r26 or r27 crankshaft that is balanced for a steel con rod.
Thanks
Garnet

Hi Garnet,

The idea of changing to 12V is good - i did it by using an Alfa 33 alternator.
It has got 14V, 43 amps and 600 Watts now - good enough
for charging the famous American Hawker Energy accumulator.

Hi Garnet,

we had a discussion about the mz-setup a few months ago, maybe it will be helpful.

Look here: http://www.bmw-einzylinder.de/forum/index.php?topic=407.0

The only problem of this link is, that it is mostly written in german. Perhaps you can translate it with a translation programm.
