Hello everybody

I can buy a Simson/AWO 425 S (1959) that looks OK at first glance.

Does someone knows more about this motorcycle that is based on the R25?
Points to look after, strong/ weak points, spare parts availability....
Does it have a good reputation or a bad one?
I have looked on the internet but as always when a motorcycle is not produced any longer its
reputation becomes better and better by the day.

Thanks in beforehand for your reaction(s)

Hi Jom,

the AWO is NOT based on the R25! Never was. It was a development in the same direction at the same time. Perhaps Simson had a glance at the Pre-War-BMW. But the AWO differs in engine, gearbox, frame, ignition (magnet!), etc from the R25. Anyway, do you know the side of EMW-Feller? There you can hear a 425S, too. The spare part situation is good and cheap. Never heard anything negative about these bikes. The AWO T is a little bit weak, the S would be the better choice. How much is the offered S?
Cheers,
Markus

Hello Jom,

in case you need some spareparts -> ask FASTNACHTER (here in this forum), he has some parts on sale right at the moment ...

Kind regards,
Karl

Hi Jom,

very much of the AWO´s have been used since the end of the GDR.
So check if it is original and well repared. It wasn´t easy since 1990 to get original spareprts. Today it is easier than it was up to 1990!
A friend of mine bout a AWO about 1993 and also as it was at a good condition at the first glance, he hat very much problems with it and never drove a longer distance.
Today it´s a "hate-love"; he will never sell it, but also never ride it!

Good luck for your choice

Price sounds good, provided that she's in a complete and good condition.
No, thanks, no S for me. But I do like the T-model, though. BTW, I know a ready-to-ride restored T in my neighbourhood. May I ask for the price?

Hi Markus,
That was a swift answer..... no thanks for the T-model.

As we are talking about prices I just had contact with somebody who offers an R2 from 1935 in completely restaured condition and in good running order. Any idea what a realistic offer would be?
I know the prices are changing as the temperature today.

I hope I can send this message as it is the secund time that I've been kicked out with " internal server failure"

Hi Jom

Let us know more about the R2  8) if you do not buy it. I probably can't afford it but it is nice to hear about old BMW.

Jom

Hello everybody,
The R2 was finally sold for 5600 Euro ( but not to me).
