Hello all. I'm in the process of installing a new steering damper 'top and rod'. While dismantling the old one the bottom plate fell off. Does anyone know whether the plate should be as seen in the image or the other way around? Currently, I have it with the concave side facing down.

Also, while I have your interest, is there a spring inside or any other bits? Mine seems to be devoid of all save for the bottom plate and top chrome bits.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Kevin,

towards the steering damper please have a look onto the attached picture. That should be enough to give you all the information you need (I hope)

Kevin,
other way round...it is like a brake...you can see the old brake signs(?)

Thanks. What about the inside, are there any other bits?

Kevin,

The top end part (see Bernd's attached image) includes two (2) springs and small (bearing) balls (parts 10/11). They are in place to stop the steering damper screw (12, 'Knebelschraube') from getting loose. Besides that, there are no other 'special' bits and pieces that could go on the inside.

The lower part (parts 15-21) consists of a spring washer, intermediate washers, and rubber rings, so make sure you've got all the parts in the right order according to the repair manual and/or parts list.

Hope this helps,
BenW
