My uncle has an R50 and I mentioned to him I had acquired an R26. One thing he mentioned was keeping the 'slingers' cleaned out on the twins...does this apply to the singles (R26) too?

Hi Mark,

the R 26 has a "slinger" too (I think you mean the "Ölschleuderblech"?), it would be advantageous if you clean it. But you have to strip down the complete engine for that.

Hi Mark,
the part Heiko named "Ölschleuderblech" is the one marked in the picture below.
Do you call it "slinger"?

Best regards

My R26 (when it arrives) has been 'restored' by a an engineer, some time ago - I gather. I am trying to contact the restorer, from another part of the UK, to ascertain what was done, the extent and when.

The internet has enabled me to establish something about this guys work.

I contacted a motorcycle dealer in the town he lives - who has no connection to me or my bike to try and trace the guy, they sent this  "....Yes we know him a very very good engineer has done a lot of work for us also..."  hopefully this bodes well (although they couldn't give me contact details for 'Data protection reasons')....but when they see him will pass on my details.

I came across the R26 when looking for something 'older' and always fancied a single. The R27 seems quite rare (in th UK - probably because of the expense) but found the R26 with the Earles front end and non-plunger rear....looking fwd to it.

It has I believe a spare BING with it too, although fitted with a Delorrto. If I can get in contact with the restorer I will find out why!

Congrats to your new bike!

The R26 (and R27) always had Earles fork front ends (and non-plunger rears), so there were no off-the-shelf telescopic front end versions such as in the US models of the R50/2, R 60/2, or R69S opposed to the non-US versions (AFAIK).

I am not sure if these pictures will work, but here goes.....   :-\\

Hi,

you have a cool rear cushion on your R 26. Who is the manufacturer?

At first glance: Also the Exhaust is not original (too big and too long). It seems to be an adapted R69S Exhaust.
Though the R69S is fast it's no tuning as the two cylinder exhausts are generally more choked than the one for singles.
Yes, rear cushion looks cool and comfortable.

Hi,

When I find out the make of the rear 'seat' I will add details here. Didn't know that the silencer was wrong, but then I am not an expert.....maybe this and the Delortto were/are found to work ok. Will have to see.

Hopefully the bike will be 'fun' to ride and 'use'.

While we're at it: the aluminium plate protecting the battery lid doesn't look like the original, it seems to be lacking the vertical extrusions/molds.

That's the main point: Enjoy the ride!
