Good Morning to All

I was out for a short ride a couple of days ago and heard a strange TINK TINK taTINK noise. At first I thougt that I had picked up a small stone between the tire and fender, but when it happened again I turned around and headed slowly for home. :-[

After a couple more Tink tinks I coasted to a smooth stop with the engine running in gear and me not moving :(.

After having a freind haul me home ;D I pulled out the gearbox and found that all the rivets had come out of the centre of the clutch disc. :schimpf:.

Has this happened  to anyone before? They have been loose foe a while as the holes in the disc were oval. Could vibration from my old aluminum rod crank have done this? Or improper flywheel runnout, or just or my huge boost is PS!! :D

Greetings
Garnet T(INK ta TINK)

Hello Tinkerbell  ;)

from which material are those rivets? Steel?
I cannot imagine how steel-rivets can come out from a clutch disc ... ???
(never heard from something like this)

Even the copper-rivets from my brake pad are stable

Greetings,
Karl (wondering)

Wow!!  :o

Really never heard of such desaster...
Though i have seen clutch disks with no more teeth in its hub.

It is possible that someone build in a new hub in the old disk using to weak rivets?

To be sure i would check the funktion of the build-in shock absorber in the gearbox (manually by distorting the in and outgoing shafts).

No more idea then... :Frage:

Hey garnet,
I also never heard about such a desaster.
I think this was only bad luck or a bad (very Bad) clutch.
I (!!) would not think more about this, new Clutch and forget it.

Thank You All!

I will look at what is left of the rivets and see if I can tell what the are made of. They are little balls of metal now. I am luckey that they did not jam between the flywheel and case and break something.

I will also test the shock spring in the gearbox (thanks Anselm). In the meantime I wait for a new disc from Ulis.

I am off for a weekend of boating with freinds ;D

A magnet would be a quick check, did you take any pictures?
