Morning everyone,
I am about to send my R27 wheels away for rebuilding. is it correct that aluminium rims use 3.5mm spokes and steel rims use 4.0mm spokes?

basically yes.
But more beautiful / elegant on the aluminium wheels are the spokes with 2 diameters, "Eindickendspeichen"
thicker side at the drum side, slender side with thread at the rim side
steel rims were used for sidecar machines, they need M4 spokes

My Info is, that R27 generally had M4 Spokes (i.e. the thread is Metric4, the spokes are thinner).
In the sparepart lists (ETL) always both types are listet.
But M3,5 always without amount, but with a "n.Bed." notation, meaning: "if needed" (in case, you have wrong/older wheel... ).
