Can anyone offer advice on 6v 8amp Gel batteries ?

For my 1951 R25

My charger is a NOCO Genius G1100 6/12 v. Connected all the time when the bike is in my garage.

Motobins offer a Blitz Unit at £57.00 ( does it explode on contact with the ground ? ) Those I remember in 1944 did.

Have always used a Lead /Acid as that was all there was. Took a run out yesterday and noticed the 'charge light ' flickering.

I ride with headlight on. Have a Zofia 6v electronic unit. 10 years now, works perfectly, and 'WILL' start the engine if the battery is flat, or as in my case once., years ago, disconnected

Investigation at home, the earth lead (Neg ) had more or less corroded through

so back to line one ?

Can anyone offer advice on 6v 8am Gel batteries ?

What is their life expectancy?

does it necessarily have to be an 8Ah type?
Many of us - included me - use a Panasonic 6V / 4.5Ah, very reliable and inexpensive (~10€)

Install the Panasonic 6V / 4.5Ah LC-R064R5P or something like that.

Use an empty Case like that if it is matching.

The 6 Volt / 4,5 Ah - Type is the king... and forget about recharging. Its absolutely unnecessary with it. Just install and enjoy! I am happy with my Kung Long 6V 4,5Ah.

In any case I would always prefer a AGM (Vlies) battery over the Gel batteries...
The 4,5 Ah Panasonic is very good and long lasting
however; Panasonic makes  other 6 V AGM batteries too, e.g. a lengthy 3,4 Ah battery  - 2 strapped together connected in parallel circuit give 6V 6,8 Ah, 3 strapped together give 6 V 10,2 Ah - that is what works in my R27 for > 10 years now. The AGM's can be in any position (except overhead). Of course, the ugly block of 3 batteries strapped together with duct tape is not visible in a R26 or R27...
For the R25, the 4,5 Panasonic in a bakelite battery case ist perfect for a R25-25/3
Just changed from liquid to AGM with my Vespas with electric starters. A quantum leap !
