Hello All!

Ulis and Rabenauer are both out of the high volume pump. S.Meyer thought they may have one but are now on holiday till the 22nd. I have not been able to reach Stemler at info@motorrad-stemler.de . Does anyone know if they are on holiday or have they changed URL?

I guess when you ride a single you must be patient ::)

Garnet G(ot lots of work to do)

Morning Garnet,

what about Mark Hugget?

Good Luck!

Hello Markus!

I had orderd one from Huggett when I got my new piston but he was out. When I emailed to ask if there was a waiting list, he said he had not seen one for about 10 years ::). Thank you for your link to Gerhard ;)

You could use the bigger Isetta 300 engine oil pump (BMW part no. 11410052050, see www.isetta-online.de, search ölpumpe) together with changing to the Isetta oilpan.

www.isetta-online.de quotes EUR 26.00 for the oilpump used and EUR 145.30 new.
The Isetta oilpan (EUR 23.00 new) fits after closing the sideways feed opening.

A used high oilpump for 26€? Wow! Sounds good...  :applaus:

Wow Is right  :o! Thanks Dieter.

Does the Isetta pump have a similar output of the 15mm? Will I be able to modify my R26 oil pump drive to fit? From the pictures it looks very similar.

Thank You All

Hi,

just had a phone call with Reinhard, the guy who made most of the engine modifications for me to get the Isetta block running in my R26. He is a very experienced classic bike tuner, successfull in the "scene" since many, many years.
He told me, there is no difference in the oilpump drive between 250cc R2x and 300cc Isetta. The only difference seems to be an additional spacer between block and oilpump to adapt the oilpump to the deeper (higher volume) Isetta style oil pan.
He is NOT sure that the oilpump itself differs between Isetta and motocycle engine.
Note: Due to HIS experiende it can be dangerous to use oilpumps with too high volume/pressure, in worst case it can cause an oil film tear-off in the floating bearings.

Kind regards,

Dieter

btw: does anyone have BMW part numbers of the several oilpumps used in motoycle engines?

rolf

Hallo,
there is no difference between the oilpumps of car and motorcycle.
the drive is(!) different, must be, as you said there is a spacer (for the deeper pan)
Which floating bearings?
Greetings

o.k., you are right..
only the rocking levers....

@ Dieter:

   floating bearing [tech.]         das Pendelrollenlager
                                          aber auch: das Gleitlager
   rocking level         der Kipphebel

from: http://dict.leo.org/

Why should the oil film tear-off at  these parts  by using too much oil ?!?

As i understand the functionality of oil is: "The more - the better"
In modern  engines the oil pumps make 800 liters per hour and even more...

I found my 20mm pump helping a lot of cooling this old motor to a reasonable
temperature like 80°C at 30°C running with 100 km/h continuously.

So why not try to splash around the oil as much as possible !

For me this theory heard today was new - as well as for you.....

Seems to be more a problem of an excessive oil pressure as a problem of oil volume flow / circulation.
For sure it is a matter of fact an increase of volume flow is an advantage in cooling.

Reinhard told me he had a discussion with engineers from GM (he restored some classic OPEL bikes for them), explaining him, the dimensioning of floating bearings (Gleitlager) has to fit to a max. oil pressure. Exceeding the defined pressure limit can cause film tear-off by streaming effects.
They specified a bearing oil pressure in the range of 3.5 bars as a critical limit. Don´t ask me if this information has general validity....

Good Afternoon All

The 11 41 0 052 050 Isetta oil pump uses a 11 41 0 052 106 strimradgehause (gear housing), the same as the 11 41 0 052 000 10mm R26/R27 oil pump.

As close as  I can tell the R25 and R25/2 used a 11 41 0 052 005 oil pump. The R25/3 to 1963 R27 used 11 41 0 052 000 10mm oil pump and the 64-66 R27 used the 11 41 0 052 001 15mm oil pump.

So I am back to the 15mm pump.

Thomas: you should do into business building 20mm pumps. I am curious, did you enlarge the oil piping in the pump and up to the main bearing? That will help increase volume of oil while reducing presure.

Garnet

Hi Garnet,

the piping has not been enlarged due to the fact that the existing 5mm diameters are big enough to keep that little flow that our (and my) pump produces.
A higher pressure is not so critical because its actually far off the 3.5 bars
set to be a limit.    As the pump type is "gears" the pressure does not have
a big influence to the flow.

Getting into business would be nice - after my retirement which will be 15
years in future  :o

Hello,

I would like to thank Markus for finding me a used R27 15mm oil pump from a freind of his and buying it for me.

I will have to have him, and all of you guys over for a beer some afternoon ;D.
