I read a post on another vintage forum from an R27 owner who says that the exhaust spigot needs to be tapped back into the head...he's asking about getting it welded in place.  I thought that odd as my R25/2 and my R69S both have the spigot as an integral part of the head...it's cast as a total piece.  I'm not familiar with R27s, not having seen many up close.  Is this true?  Is the R27 exhaust spigot a separate part of the head, welded in place?

Thanks...Kurt

Hi Kurt,
Exhaust ports are a bit of a sore point with me at present!
However I have just checked my near abandoned R27 and I can state that the exhaust spigot is cast as an integral part of the cylinder head.

It sounds to me as if the poster quoted is talking about a repair where a new spigot is tapped into the head and welded for a secure joint. There are quite a few options for repairing the damage to the threads,
R25/3 + R65LS. The R27 has found a new home.
I was not lost, my GPS just found a different way back.

Thanks...I will pass that on.  I don't think the issue is the threads, though, but now that I think about it, you could be right.
