Hello Everyone!

I recievd my new Kolben Schmidt R50S piston today :). My manual states that kolbeneinbauspiel should be .04mm for R27: .06mm for R26 and .08mm for R50S. I have made extra drilling for oil in the cylinder base to match the R27. What have you found to be best?I will be breaking in the engine this winter ridding in 0 to 10 C temperatures.

I did not recieve a 15mm R27 oil pump yet :(. I will try Ulis and Stemler next. Does anyone know who else to try? I am not sure I have the skill to build a 20mm like Thomas did.

Greetings

Morning Garnet!

I found one at Rabenbauer: 11 41 0 052 001 - Ölpumpe "15mm Räder" kpl. R26/R27 gebraucht     EUR 100.00
Unfortunately no English-spoken side, but feel free to contact me for help concerning order/pay etc.  ;)

Hi Garnet,

Piston Clearance:
Valid is the value stated on the piston: i.e. SP = 0,05  means .05 mm.
The new KS pistons are made for a narrower clearance, due to different "expanding properties" of modern alloy.

To reduce cylinderhead temperature i have made good experience with an selfmade coppergasket for the valve lids.

Hey Markus!

Thanks for the lead. I will try to contact them in my broken German and see if they can stop laughing long enough to reply ;D. I will let you know if I need help.

Anselm:

I see the SP 0.05 on top of the piston. Thanks.

How thick was the copper gasket that you made for your valve covers?

I have to get to work and start putting things back together.

You're welcome! But: Be aware of the dialect 'cos you are calling up in the South of Germany (Hope YOU get everything what Rabenbauer says!  ;D )
Good Luck!

Hi,
it was a normal 1,0 mm copper sheet, which "Roofmakers" use.
It seems to be tighter than the original gasket has ever been!

It is important to make the copper soft by glowing:
Glow the gasket light red and throw imediatly in water. It will look "dirty" then but is soft and will be tight.
You may do this approx. after every 5th reuse.
