Titel: R2 Frame Number
Beitrag von: Jollyjester am 06 Juli 2021, 19:11:07
I have been asked," Where can I find the Frame Number on an R2 "?

Engine  number may be 16xxx.

Does that sound right ?

The frame number is on the right under the cardan housing in the direction of travel.
16XXX is too high. The frame numbers ended at 15402 for the R2.

A pictorial BMW book I have indicates that the R2 frame numbers were P15000 to P19260 while the engine numbers were 101 to 15402 and from P80001 to P97700.  I know that early on, the engine and frame numbers didn't match.  But the range given for frames covers on 4260 bikes and that doesn't match the engine number range.

Oh sorry, I have mixed up the columns for frame and engine numbers in my documents.

More on the R2. engine  number fit a 1935 Series 4.

But the frame number has been 'doctored' with a hammer and chisel. Un readable

I believe the 'Tank' was changed on the Series 4?

SO, would a 1935 series 4 tank fit an earlier Frame.

If NOT. that pinpoints the frame to 1935 / 6

Over to you please
