Hello

I have a 1962 R27 in the US.
It came from San Jose BMW as a display bike that I decided to get back on the road. It sat over the service department for over 16 years. Originally the bike came to the US via Frankfurt Germany. It spent the majority of its life in South America. So there is a pretty extensive history to this little machine.
I have done:
full electrical harness including voltage regulator
headlight glass
seat
new carb
headwork -valve seats, grind and fin repair
new seals and gaskets

The bottom end work -crank, slingers, chain, clutch -
was done by the only person to trust in the US - Udo Gietl

many many rubber bits
rebuilt the board in the headlight bucket
new front shock inserts
refurbished brakes and associated bits
cleaned out tank - that was super not so fun
re-striped the paint

I rode the thing before I decided to "fix it up"
2kick bike ran like a champ. Opened it up and found the top ring on the piston broken in nine spots so it jumpstarted a mechanical rebuild..

I have my R27 running great but it has a "homemade" advance unit or "centrifugal governor" as BMW puts it. Apparently it was pretty common to get the twin advance unit and grind off a lobe to make it a single unit.
Because of this, it is really difficult to get the timing to be perfect in all the rev range. Yes my springs are good.

Anyone holding one that they would like to get rid of? it is just the unit with the lobe and weights, not the plate.

Let me know what you have and how much you want for it. I know of some sources that  say they have it but it is priced out of what I want to pay for it. Plus it is a pretty rare item so I doubt that there are many sources for it.  I am hoping someone has an extra one that they will never use that can go to a working bike.

the part number from bmw is: 12 11 8 030 147
unavailable from the motorrad.

I can be reached at boscoitalia at gmail dot com.
Thanks!

Hello Bosco.

Welcome to our forum and many thanks for the great introduction...even including a pic :juhuu:

The parts you are searching for are pretty rare on this side of the Atlantic as well (and thus rather expensive as well), but with some patience you can get one via eBay (at least over here).

I will translate your request to German-maybe that way you will be lucky...

Best regards, Taz

..no 1957 was an oval window.

That VW has to be between 1961 to 1963.

(push-button door handles; new in 1960)
(bumper over-riders; new in 1961)
(cloth 2-fold sunroof until 1963)

...cool car.
