1958 R26 front brake
« am: 27 Februar 2017, 18:28:08 »

Hi all

Help and advice needed again please. :)

I am assembling the brake arm on the front wheel hub plate on my 1958 R26 but there are some things I am not sure of.
On the parts list it shows a ball and a spring, item 25 & 26 on this page.
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=0T14-EUR-04-1958-T26-BMW-R26&diagId=34_0906

What is the purpose of these parts and how do they fit.

Also item 24 has a top hat protrusion on the outboard side, what is the purpose of the protrusion,?

Hi Brian,
the ball and the spring prevents the brake-cable adjuster from unintended winding (by vibration e.g) as there is no counter nut to secure it.
The ball snaps into the longitudinal slot in the adjuster (#23) on every turn.
You got to put the spring and ball first into #24, before you screw in the adjuster (#23)
Part 24 and 23 are slotted, so that it is possible to assemble them first (with spring and ball) and then put the brake cable in.
I hope my words clarify the purpose and intended assembly.
I don't know what the protrusion is for, maybe to hold it with pliers or something while adjusting the play ?
Regards,
Sascha

Hey Brian,

check the part 24, maybe the spring is still inside.
I found the spring without the ball at my frontbrake while i was cleaning it.
I replaced the ball with one from an old drawer.
The mounting is a litte bit difficult because you can delay the ball when you mount the screw (part 23).

Greetings,
Tim

Thanks guys.

I understand now but I think I might make a special lock nut and use that.
