Hi All,

I would like to replace the worn out Bing 1/26/93 on my R27 for a Mikuni carburetor (as a test) but have no idea what type and jetting I have to use.
Do you have any experience with this?

Thanks,
Jom

burghard

no, but perhaps it is easier to take an electronic injection from china....

Burghard

No - my serious advice:

try to get another Bing same type - also possible are the Bing Typ 53 from BMW twins R50/5 -60/6

Jom

Thanks Burghard for your answer.

The reason for the choise of a Mikuni is the fact that the engine idles better. On You Tube there are many Asian R26/27 with a japanese carb and they all seem to work well. Unfortunately nobody is answering my request for information.
As far as I know a new Bing carb is hard if not impossible to find, but if you have a proposal or address feel free to send it.

I know someone from near frankfurt, who did it with his isetta, but it took a londer time to set it up right...

Hi Jom,

I can offer you a Blitz Carburettor for R27. Nearly new, just used for a test Project.

Hello Jom,
what's wrong with your Bing 1/26/93?
Don't waste your time.

Hello

The 1/26/93 looks OK but has been overhauled several times (and also by a specialised company "T" ). Apart from the body everything is new. Some years ago I could lend a good carb from a Dutch BMW dealer with good result. Both carbs where in principle identical so I am convinced that the problem is in the carburator.

@ Wolfgang; mmm Blitz... how was the test with this as one reads good and bad about it. Did you put it on a R27?

Donovan

I used a Mikuni on an R27 when working on a restoration with a friend. His original carb was shot and we could not source a replacement. The Mikuni never worked well. We could get the bike running but it didn't idle correctly. If that was fixed it was not jetting right to run when the throttle was applied. We tried several jet needle combinations and finally gave up and used a spare Bing from an R60/5. He is still using this carb today. I believe he sourced the intake from Vech in the US.

If you cannot find the original style Bing a R60/5 should work.

Hi Jom,
as already mentioned by several members you should stick to the original Bing 1/26/93. I doubt if a Mikuni would be of help for you. But again, whats wrong with your bike? Are the problems really due to the carb?
If it's the carb, for a repair job look for example for Faak - Tilmanns specialized on those.
Regards
Thomas

Jom

Hi Thomas
The idling problem that I have is due to the carb as I have tried an other 1/26/93 with good result.  It is Tilmann that overhauled the carb and did a good job but it still the old carb.

Hi Jom,

I tested the Blitz on an R27. Idling is fine, and acceleration is really better than with the Bings (no "hole" from idle to acceleration).
However the look is not original, and since I also have also 2 Bing carbs I will sell the Blitz again.... maybe ... maybe I will Keep it as spare
